Azerbaijan’s relevance to the UK emphasised at Labour Party conference
Press Release: Around 100 Labour supporters attended The European Azerbaijan Society’s (TEAS) reception on 2 October at this year’s conference at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, Manchester.
The two speakers were Gerry Sutcliffe MP, member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Azerbaijan and Richard Howitt, MEP, Labour Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs in the EU.
Gerry Sutcliffe MP said: “I am delighted to be here as a friend of Azerbaijan. Labour supports Azerbaijan, and later this year we will visit the country to meet the trade unions. We need to unite with workers in the country, and give them a message of support. Azerbaijan is of great importance to the UK, not least due to its strategically important location.”
Richard Howitt MEP stated: “We want Europe to engage as much as possible with Azerbaijan. We are aware of the ongoing Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven surrounding regions, and would like to see movement towards the swift and peaceful resolution of this.”
“Azerbaijan’s oil and gas resources are incredibly important for Europe with regard to the future of energy security. TEAS is making a great contribution towards raising awareness of the country’s strengths and the challenges that it faces.”
