Azerbaijani chalet opens for the second consecutive year at Mulhouse’s legendary Christmas market
Mulhouse 24 November 2016: For the second consecutive year, the French office of The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) has organised an Azerbaijani chalet at the legendary Christmas market in Mulhouse, in the Alsace region of France, following a successful first edition in 2015.
During five weeks, visitors will be able to enjoy Azerbaijani hospitality and taste top-quality Azerbaijani wine, tea, pomegranate juice, rose and fig jams, traditional pastries, paklavas and shekerbura, together with having the opportunity to purchase exquisite authentic handicrafts as Christmas gifts, including traditional Kelaghayi (silk scarves), which have been included on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and Jorab (slipper-socks), hand-made in Guba. They will also be able to extend their knowledge of the Azerbaijani regions, notably the city of Gabala, one of its most historic cities and a new tourist destination, by reading the books and brochures available at the chalet.
TEAS was present at the opening ceremony, which was led by Jean Rottner, Mayor, City of Mulhouse; Nathalie Motte, Deputy-Mayor in charge of Tourism and Cultural Events; and Christian Keller, Vice-President, Chambre des Metiers d’Alsace. They stressed that Mulhouse was proud to open its 26th Christmas market. Such markets are a strong and lasting tradition in the Alsace region, and Mulhouse anticipates that over one million guests will enjoy the event during the next five weeks.
The city of Mulhouse, the second largest in the Alsace region, is twinned with the ancient Azerbaijani city of Yevlakh. Participation in the Christmas market was facilitated by TEAS France in conjunction with Gilan Holding of Azerbaijan, notably the FMCG Group and Gilan Hospitality Group, represented by Elshan Mirzayev, Director of Sales, at the opening ceremony.
While touring the market, Mr Rottner stopped at the Azerbaijani stand, where he received warm Azerbaijani hospitality and was offered delicious paklava.
The Azerbaijani chalet will be open from 24 November–27 December 2016 from 10.00–18.00hrs, except on 25 December (Christmas Day), in the town of Mulhouse. For more information, go to: www.etoffeeries.fr
