Press Release: On 19 October, in excess of 1,500 people descended on the Central Hall Westminster, a stone’s throw from the Palace of Westminster, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijani independence. This glittering event was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UK and The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS), with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism.


Press Release: The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) has expanded its European activities by hosting a conference in the European Parliament, Brussels for over 60 stakeholders. Held on 20 October, this was entitled 20 years of independence: Azerbaijan’s future opportunities. During the event, the distinguished Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Tunne Kelam (EPP – Estonia); Evgeni Kirilov (S&D – Bulgaria); and Ivo Vajgl (ALDE – Slovenia) joined H.E.


Press Release: David Lidington MP, Minister for Europe, has emphasised the importance of expanding the UK’s relationship with Azerbaijan during a fringe debate at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on 4 October. The debate, entitled New opportunities and old challenges on Europe’s Eastern Frontier: What now for UK and EU engagement in the South Caucasus? was organised by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) and the Foreign Policy Centre.


Press Release: The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) is organising the visit of Mrs Ibonna Botto-Shirmammadova (formerly Yvonne Marie Botto) to France on 9–18 October after more than 60 years in Azerbaijan. Mrs Botto-Shirmammadova, who is originally from France, has been living in Murguzalli, a village in the Imishli district of Azerbaijan, since 1947. During the visit, she will meet her relatives who live in France and were identified by TEAS’ research.


Press Release: On 26 September, Labour Party Conference delegates in Liverpool attended a fringe debate entitled Russia, Azerbaijan and the West: what does the New Great Game mean for Europe’s energy security?, organised by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS), in association with Progress. The panel comprised Wayne David MP, Shadow Minister for Europe; Richard Howitt MEP; Charles Grant, Director, Centre for European Reform; and Dennis Sammut OBE, Executive Director, LINKS. The Chairman was Mike Gapes MP.


Press Release: The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) organised a fringe drinks reception at the Liberal Democrat conference entitled From Baku to Birmingham. The speakers were H.E. Fakhraddin Gurbanov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UK and two members of the Azerbaijan All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) – Lord German and Stephen Gilbert, Liberal Democrat MP. The chair was Leon Cook, Head of Government Relations, TEAS.


Press Release: ZANN unites a collection of drawings and paintings by Kabira Alieva, the Azerbaijani artist, who brings her second solo show in the UK to a wide London audience in a quest to visually engage, educate, introduce and explore Azerbaijani identity, superimposed on a British cultural canvas. This exhibition is sponsored by The European Azerbaijan Society.
